"It Took Me So Long" is atypical collection of electronic music features layers of sounds, textures, beats, and ambient backdrops over which Ana sings about love, loneliness, family, decision-making, and coming of age. The music draws equally from the aesthetics of the '80s, '90s, and early 2000s, incorporating numerous interesting arrangement choices and improvisations. The album consists of eight tracks, including the lead single, and alongside that are "Protect Me", "We Said Everything Else", "Wait", "Darling", "Smiling", "Let's Go Out" i "Submit".
